"Thank you for a well-organized, meaningful, and engaging presentation that gets to the heart of the matter: connecting context and concepts in instruction. Terrific!"
–Linda Buck, principal |
The following workshops are just a few of those available at your site. Site workshops are normally six hours in length and include a complete, ready-to-implement Resource Handbook of approximately 100 pages for all paid participants.
"I will be a better teacher because of you."
–Kathleen Doyle, 8th grade math & science teacher

The Seven Noble Tasks
The Seven Noble Tasks is designed to instill strength of character in adolescents. Students are given the opportunity to complete seven tasks challenging them physically, emotionally, and mentally. In conquering these obstacles, they are better equipped to face the challenges they will encounter as they enter adulthood. The success they found in completing these tasks helped build community, diminished behavioral issues, increased academic success, and allowed us to connect with our students in a powerful and personal way.
"Always fun watching you in action. I get reenergized and excited about going back to teach!"
–Teresa Garcia, 8th grade intervention teacher
Fast Facts and Fractions
Do you have students who don't know their multiplication facts? Do your students struggle with fraction operations? Our classroom-proven techniques will show how to overcome both obstacles while building confidence in your most struggling student and raising test scores. Is it any wonder this is our most popular presentation?
"I love when I can go back to the classroom and use what I just learned. Thank you very much for your expertise and enthusiasm."
–Kim Clay, 8th grade teacher
Developing Proportional Reasoning
Proficiency with proportional reasoning is key in the transition from arithmetic to algebra. This workshop takes a comprehensive approach in developing proportional reasoning from the most conceptual levels to the most abstract. Creative problem-solving techniques will provide your students with effective tools for daily work and for state testing also.
"Fantastic workshop! Finally I will walk away with materials and activities I can use immediately in my classroom."
–Scott Murphy, 6th grade teacher
Fractions, Decimals, and Percents - Creative Connections that Work
You will receive over three weeks of activities to help students see the connections between fractions, decimals and percents. These activities foster comprehension in new and unique ways. Conceptual understanding and computational accuracy are developed concurrently.
"A wonderful new approach to teaching fractions, percents, and decimals."
–Mary Robinson, 5th grade teacher
Strategies for Success with Struggling Students
Another very popular workshop focuses on reaching the unteachable and teaching the unreachable. Six components of targeting and engaging the reluctant and struggling learner are addressed. Examples of each strategy are employed. You'll leave with weeks of material for fostering mathematical proficiency in the most challenging students.
"This is a workshop all math teachers MUST attend!"
–Stella Edorpa, 6-8th grade teacher
Safely Navigating Social Media for Teens
A predator can find your student in under a minute using social media. At the same time, these social networking sites can be a benefit to the educational process if used wisely. This session will offer engaging data regarding social media, provide a classroom activity to include students in constructive dialog, and offer safety tips for teens and parents.
"The best I've seen in a long time; exactly what I've been asking for: strategies that will help students."
–Linnae Coiner, high school teacher
The Language of Math: Helping Students Speak, Write, and Think Mathematically
This workshops shows participants why language matters in the math class. Language shows us what a student is thinking, and takes a student to a deeper level of understanding. Included is a simple writing prompt template, over 40 journal prompts
in several categories, and 30 prompts ready for you to make overhead transparencies. All students will benefit from this approa
"This reaffirms and stretches my ideas of what it means to understand math!"
-Michael Towne, 5th grade teacher
Number Sense - The Key to Bridging the Gap to Higher Mathematical Thinking
All mathematical understanding is built upon number sense. This workshop will help your students develop critical number sense skills while they have fun at the same time.
"It would certainly be wonderful if all students could have a teacher who makes math as fun as you do."
–Judy Gnoud, resource teacher
Math Games that Motivate and Educate
This workshop shows you how to incorporate skills practice to increase proficiency without decreasing enthusiasm.
This workshop could also be called "The Best Activities from Our File Cabinets to Yours". These standards-aligned activities engage students, then allow them to explore the activities, and provide extensions for future mathematical growth.
"Inspires me to run back to my classroom and show my students just how much fun math is."
–Kisha Maxie, K-5 math coach
Managing the Math Class for Maximum Success
This presentation will help you increase student success while streamlining your many daily tasks. Make the paper chase work for you instead of against you. Learn how to maximize time on task, increase student engagement, simplify record-keeping, promote homework participation, and more.
"We are a Program Improvement school, and this is a wonderful teaching tool that will obviously improve learning."
–Robert Lynn, 6-8th grade teacher
Developing Algebraic Thinking with Understanding Instead of Tears
This workshop is designed to enable younger students to understand and become proficient with algebraic concepts, while ideas for extensions make the activities presented just as appropriate for older students in formal algebra classes.
"Absolutely great experience! Confirms my belief that kids could do more if given the nourishment."
–Therapi Kaplan, 4th grade teacher
Graphic Organizers for Teaching Algebra
Many students do not know where to begin when confronted by a challenging math problem. These simple and proven techniques will help them not only start but also finish successfully. The graphic organizers address word problems, proportions, mixture problems, factoring polynomials, and combined work problems. The comprehensive handout is classroom-ready.
"This was one of the best seminars that I attended. I plan to incorporate many of the ideas presented."
–David Melton, high school math teacher
Data, Probability, and Statistics: Literacy for a Mathematical World
This workshop covers the four components of data: data gathering, data displays, data interpretation, and data inference. Several motivating games are included that will make probability come alive as well as teach the important concepts. All major types of data displays and data interpretation/inference techniques are explained so that participants will be successful with their students. This is a real hands-on application of a most important topic for today's information age.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. Today was terrific."
–Cassie Calde, K-8 teacher
Geometry: A Mathematical Reflection of the Physical World
This workshop will develop vocabulary, concepts of area, perimeter, measurement, congruence, and geometric models of algebra. We also cover the Pythagorean Theorem, informal proofs, the Van Hiele model, isometric drawing, and constructions. Patterns in geometry are included to allow students that allow students to make t-tables and do coordinate graphing. These materials work well with symbolic, visual, and tactile learners, both as teachers and students.
"Very inspiring and thought-provoking. Reignites the desire to teach and the joy of discovery."
–Alan Call, high school teacher
